New Cat Photo and Video

3MA interns have been working with long term staff to trial run our camera trap protocol, with encouraging results.

Two cameras were placed around this spot to monitor it from different angles. Quite to our surprise and pleasure, one was accidentally set to record video, resulting in this fine record.

The protocol development is in preparation for a cat survey of unprecedented scope – documenting as many as six large cat species in one area! Let’s see how many I can name… Puma/Cougar, Ocelot, Margay, Jaguarundi, and I’m missing one but the crown jewel would be a full on Jaguar.

*Update: The sixth cat included in the survey is the Oncilla.*
